What WellSky actually offers for patient communication, why Outreach and portal messaging do not cover conversational texting, and how to add two-way SMS for home health.
Get started for freeSchedule a demo →WellSky (formerly Kinnser) offers WellSky Outreach, a campaign-texting add-on powered by QliqSOFT, and portal messaging in its core platform. Outreach handles bulk outbound campaigns — satisfaction surveys, appointment reminders, general announcements. It is not conversational two-way SMS. The core platform's portal messaging requires patient login. There are no group threads and no dedicated agency number for patient texting.

WellSky Outreach is an add-on that sends bulk SMS campaigns to patients. It handles outbound messaging at scale — surveys, reminders, marketing. The core WellSky platform includes portal-based messaging where patients log in to read and respond.
For campaign-style outreach, WellSky Outreach works. For the conversational texting that home health agencies need — a clinician coordinating visit times with a patient, a nurse following up on a wound-care question, a scheduler confirming access instructions — neither tool is designed for that exchange.
WellSky Outreach is campaign texting, not conversational. A patient cannot reply to an Outreach message and have a back-and-forth exchange with their clinician. Portal messaging requires a login. There are no group threads where a clinician, supervisor, and patient share one conversation.
Home health agencies need conversational texting that works in the field — a clinician on the road coordinating with a patient and the office. WellSky's tools are built for the office, not the field. See HIPAA texting for home health for what compliant patient texting requires in home health.
When the EHR offers campaign texting and portal messaging but no conversational SMS, clinicians text patients from personal phones. The agency has no record of the exchange. PHI sits on personal devices in the field, where devices are more likely to be lost or stolen.
A texting tool that works alongside WellSky should handle conversational two-way SMS — not campaigns. Patients should reply from their phone without logging into anything. Group threads should let clinicians, supervisors, and patients share one conversation. A signed BAA should cover the texting platform independently.
BloomText gives home health agencies a dedicated number for patient texting. Patients receive secure links over SMS and reply from their phone. Clinicians in the field coordinate with patients and the office through group conversations. WellSky stays the clinical record. BloomText handles the conversational texting.
Every plan includes a signed BAA, including the free plan. See pricing for current plans.
