Send, open and download files and photos
Send a form or photo in a chat, then open, zoom into and download files that families and teammates send you.
Who can do this: Everyone · Web and desktop
You can send a family an intake form, a schedule or a photo right in the chat. Files stay in BloomText with the chat history, not in email or on your computer. When someone sends you a file, you can open it, check it at full size and download it.
Before you start
- Have the file saved on your computer.
- Each file can be up to 2 GB.
Send files or photos
- In the Inbox, open the chat with the family who needs the files, for example Maria Gonzalez.
- Click the + at the left of the message box to open More actions.
- Click Attach, then choose the files from your computer. You can pick several photos at once.
- The files wait above the message box. Nothing uploads until you press Send.
- Type a note in the Type your message... box so the family knows what to do with the files. It goes out with them as their caption.
- Press Send. The files and the note go out together as one message.
- Photos sent together arrive as one bubble: the photos in a grid, with your note underneath.
- The files stay in BloomText with the chat history. Click any photo to open it full size.
Other files, such as a PDF, show as a card with their name and size. You can also drag a file from your computer onto the chat to add it.
Open and download a file
- In the Inbox, open the chat where the files were sent.
- Photos sent together show as one grid. Click a photo to open it full size.
- Click the arrow (Next image) to see the next photo sent with it.
- Click Close image preview to go back to the chat.
- To save a file, point at it and click the three dots (Message actions).
- Click Download. Photos have the same Download in their own menu.
- BloomText asks Save this file to your device? first, because saved files leave BloomText. Tick I understand the risks.
- Click Download. The file saves to your computer's Downloads folder.
- To pass a file to a teammate, click Copy link in the same menu and share the link in BloomText.
Check a photo full screen
Before you file a form or reply about it, check that it is the right one and easy to read.
- In the Inbox, click the chat that has the photo.
- Click the photo to open it full screen.
- Check it is the right file. It fills the screen, with its file name at the top.
- Click the photo to zoom in on small print.
- Click it again to zoom back out.
- Click the X (Close image preview) at the top right to go back to the chat.
- You are back in the chat. The file stays there, so you can open it again any time.
Good to know
- While a photo is open full size, Download image at the top saves it.
- BloomText asks you to confirm the first download on each device, then remembers your answer.
- Click a PDF or Office file's card to open it in a new browser tab.
- A file that can't be sent shows the reason under it. See Check delivery and fix failed messages.
- Videos open the same way, with Download video and Close video preview at the top.
