Fix your camera or microphone in a video call

Pick the right camera, microphone and speakers before or during a BloomText video call, and allow access in your browser.

Who can do this: Everyone · Web

If the other person can't hear or see you, you can switch your camera, microphone or speakers without leaving the call. Check them before you join, or open the same settings during the call.

Before you start

  • Plug in your headset or webcam before you open the call link.
  • Close other apps that might be using your camera, such as another video call.

Check your devices before you join

  1. Open the video call link. If asked, type your name and click Continue.
  2. When your browser asks to use your camera and microphone, select Allow. On a phone, tap Continue first.
  3. On Verify your Settings, click Continue to reach Join the Meeting.
  4. Click Check settings.
  5. Under Microphone, choose the headset or microphone you're using. A check mark means the browser can use that microphone. It doesn't test for sound, so check that your headset's own mute switch is off. If you see No audio detected., try another microphone or allow microphone access.
  6. Under Camera, choose the camera you want. Check that the preview shows you.
  7. Under Speakers, click Test audio to hear a sound.
  8. Click Continue to go back to Join the Meeting.
  9. When it says You are ready to join., click Join with video.
  10. Ask the other person whether they can hear you.

Change devices during a call

  1. Click More options (the three dots) in the call controls.
  2. Click Check audio/video settings.
  3. Pick a different camera or microphone, then click Done.

To turn your microphone or camera off and on, use the Mute and Disable camera buttons in the call controls.

Allow camera and microphone access

Your browser asks for permission the first time you join. Select Allow so the call can use your camera and microphone.

If you blocked access by mistake:

  • Computer: Click the camera or lock icon in the address bar and allow the camera and microphone. Then click Try Again on the call page.
  • iPhone (Safari): Tap the ᴀA icon in the address bar, choose Website Settings, then Allow the Camera and Microphone.
  • Android (Chrome): Tap the menu next to the address bar, choose Settings, then Site Settings. Turn on Microphone and Camera.

Good to know

  • Speaker output follows your computer's sound settings. Change it there if you hear nothing.
  • If the video keeps freezing, turn your camera off and keep talking with audio only, or move closer to your Wi-Fi router.
  • Use an up-to-date Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge browser.
