Read and reply to texts in another language
Translate a patient's text into English, set their language once, and reply in English. BloomText sends your reply in their language.
Who can do this: Everyone · Web and desktop
When a patient texts in another language, BloomText can show their texts in English and send your English replies in their language. You set their language once, and it stays on for every chat with them.
Before you start
- Translation is an organization setting. If you don't see Translate under a patient's text, ask an organization admin whether translation is on.
Turn on translation for a patient
- From the Inbox, open the patient's chat, for example Lucía Morales.
- BloomText spots the language. Click Spanish? Translate under her message.
- BloomText asks Set Lucía's language to Spanish? Click Set language, so her texts and your replies are translated from now on.
- Her message now reads in English, labeled Translated from Spanish.
Reply in English
- Type your reply in English, as you always do.
- Press Send. BloomText translates the reply into Spanish before it goes out.
- Your English stays in the thread, labeled Sent in Spanish. Click Show sent text to see the Spanish she got.
Later texts
- When she texts again in Spanish, her text flips to English on its own.
- Click See original to check her exact words.
- Her Spanish shows under the English. Translation stays on in every chat with her.
Good to know
- If the message is in English after all, click It's English on the prompt, or ✕ to dismiss it.
- Click Not now in the language question to keep just that one message translated, without setting her language.
- Organization admins choose whether translation is on, and whether it covers patients' texts, your replies, or both: Settings → Organizations → your organization → Details, under Translation.
