A video visit, from scheduling text to follow-up
Agree a visit time by text, start a HIPAA-compliant video visit at that time, and send the after-visit notes in the same thread.
Who can do this: Everyone · Web and desktop
When a patient asks for a remote appointment, you can do the whole visit in BloomText: agree the time by text, hold the visit on video, and send the follow-up. The scheduling and follow-up messages stay in the patient's chat, and the patient doesn't need an account or an app. BloomText keeps the record of the visit itself in a separate Video Chat conversation.
Before you start
- Your plan needs video calling. See Video calls.
- Have the patient's mobile number or email address.
Agree a time by text
- In the Inbox, click the patient's chat.
- Type the time you agreed, for example "See you on video at 10 AM tomorrow."
- Press Send, the paper-plane button. The time stays in the thread for both of you.
Start the visit
- At visit time, click the round + at the top of the Inbox. New chat opens.
- Click Video call. The Start a video chat window opens.
- Type the patient's mobile number. If they don't have one, type their email address instead. When you fill in both, only the text is sent.
- Click Invite. The call opens in a new window, and the patient gets a link by text.
- If a pop-up blocker stops the window, or you need to rejoin, click Open.
BloomText also starts a Video Chat conversation in your Inbox. It logs who you invited, when they joined and how long they stayed, and its link takes you back into the call.
The patient taps the link, allows their camera and microphone, and joins. You can send them Join a video visit from a link ahead of time.
Send the follow-up
- After you hang up, go back to the patient's chat.
- Type the after-visit notes, or attach a document.
- Press Send. Scheduling and follow-up now sit in the patient's chat, and the visit's record is in its Video Chat conversation.
- Archive the chat when there's nothing left to do.
Good to know
- If the picture or sound doesn't work, see Fix your camera or microphone in a video call.
- Check the patient's number before you click Invite. The link goes to the number or email you type.
