Hide patient phone numbers
Turn on one organization setting so coworkers who aren't admins see only the last four digits of patient numbers and can't search by phone.
Who can do this: Organization admins · Web and desktop
An organization admin can keep patient phone numbers away from coworkers who aren't admins. With the setting on, they see a masked number, such as •••-•••-0142, and can't look patients up by phone. Admins still see full numbers.
Before you start
- You need to be an organization admin.
Turn it on
- From the Inbox, click Settings, the gear beside your name at the bottom left.
- Click Organizations to see the practices you belong to.
- Click your practice to open its settings.
- Open the Details tab. Organization-wide settings live here, and only admins can change them.
- Find Don't allow users to see patient phone numbers. The hint under it says admins still see them.
- Click the toggle. The setting saves as soon as you click it.
- A bar says "Organization security settings updated".
Check what coworkers see
- Click Directory in the left bar.
- Click the Patients tab.
- Coworkers who aren't admins see only the last four digits in the Phone column, and can't search by phone.
Good to know
- The mask shows everywhere a patient number would: the Directory, patient pages, chat titles and headers, search results, chat exports and email notifications.
- Coworkers can still add a patient by typing a new number. If the number already belongs to a patient in your organization, BloomText opens that patient instead of making a duplicate.
- To show full numbers again, turn the toggle off.
